Our Music

We have no aspiration to be famous (rich would be nice but famous? Nah!) We're making music because it's something that we enjoyed a great deal many years ago and now, thanks to lockdown, we've re-discovered that joy. We're not too fast when it comes to recording new songs, real life regularly gets in the way, as you would expect, but when we do come up with something new, you will find it here.

If you really enjoy our music, we'd be thrilled if you'd consider buying our songs. There are many places you can do this from, but Bandcamp is the best. We don't think we'll ever break even or make a profit, but earnings from streams on sites such as Spotify are negligible, whereas actual sales will go some way to us recouping the money we spent on all our new shiny instruments and gadgets!

If you want to learn more about our songs, have a look below...unless you're on your phone. "Mobile Mode" or not, this page is an absolute train-wreck. You're better off just giving it a miss. Sorry for our amateurishness!

Lost in a Strange Land Cover.jpg

Well, we didn't rest for too long, did we? Oli at Radio TFSC asked us to take part in Couchella 2023, where artists send it acoustic versions of their songs, so we grabbed Alison Johnson again and headed into the studio to record five tracks.

The result is the Lost in a Strange Land EP, a mix of some old and new songs, but all played live and acoustic, with Alison joining us on vocals or percussion. This came out better than we imagined, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

As December 2020 approached, the band decided to maybe write a Christmas song. Matt's first attempt, Covid Christmas, was quickly vetoed but his second attempt a week later was much better received. Santa's Day Off was written, recorded and released within eight days.

All proceeds earned from the sale of this song will be donated to the helipad appeal at Sheffield Children's Hospital, a charity close to the hearts of the band.

Bloody hell! Who'd've thunk it? We finally got the ruddy album out! It only took two damn years! Plus, you know, the twenty-three before that. It's not just a random name, you know!

Anyway, we've been working very hard on this and we're incredibly proud of it. It's the best album we've ever made, until we make another. We hope you enjoy it, because it's oing to have to last you a while. We're going for a nice rest now!

After our first cover and our first collaboration comes our first song with a guest vocalist! Alison Johnson is a friend of ours with a love, not to mention an incredible talent, for singing. She expressed an interest in singing a song for us so we went through the archives as it were and found this one from Matt and Jimmy's Second Storm days.

It's a bit of a departure from our usual rock offerings. We hope you like it!

I Don't Want To Wake Up Dead In America - Single.jpg

Our first collaboration, and a song inspired by a "terrible, unusable" lyric that Matt wrote in the back of his song-writing notebook last century.

Mike Smull, aka The Godzilla Attacks Tokyo Kamikaze Blues Band, heard about that lyric, turned it into a song, and then asked us to help him make it.

Well we jumped at the chance and this is what we came up with. Enjoy!

Cover - Gambler's Last Day.jpg

Gambler's Last Day is a song by Gozer Goodspeed, and it is the first ever Storm of Crows cover. It was recorded for a competition run by Gozer and his label, Lights & Lines, in August 2021.

Sadly, Storm of Crows lost this competition, spiralled into a downward spiral or spiraly depression, and all started drinking. Not alcohol though, don't worry. They switched from Zero to full fat Coke. Sad times.

Cover - You Decide.jpg

You Decide is the first "proper" song Paul and Matt wrote in their first band, West Tangleyam. The year was 1997, and You Decide came about as parts of two songs were stuck together.

This was the second song Matt decided to record in lockdown 2020, but got Jimmy to help out on bass. Only ever uploaded for friends, the song was dragged out again in 2021 with Paul adding his vocal and guitar to finally perfect the track.

Cover - No Friend of Mine.jpg

No Friend of Mine is a song that was written by Matt and Jimmy during their time in Second Storm, the band they formed after the collapse of West Tangleyam. Matt's cousin Jim, who was one of the many drummers in that band, also helped by writing the chorus.

Reanimated eighteen years later, in 2020, Paul's seven or eight new guitar parts (not kidding) brought new life to this up tempo chest-thumping rocker!

Cover - We Were Free.jpg

We Were Free is a song by Matt that started life as the last embers of West Tangleyam were extinguished, and was finished in the band Second Storm.

The song was recorded before Storm of Crows officially formed and as such, Paul doesn't actually feature on it (kind of like Ringo in the first couple of Beatles songs...he's not on this either) but to make up for that, you have Matt's daughter, Evie, playing piano for us instead.

Cover - Upon Us.jpg

Upon Us is the oldest song we have recorded so far. Written by Paul and Matt in 1998, they were as surprised as each other to realise that over twenty years later, it was actually a decent song.

This song was recorded when the band thought they were still just messing around in Lockdown, but once they finished it they realised they wanted to do more and thus, Storm of Crows was born!
